Rays are looking playoff bound in 2025, but they really need another all-purpose bat in the lineup, preferably a RHB that crushes LHP. Rays are currently hitting RHP well (113 wRC+) but are struggling against LHP (89 wRC+), with several bats that are nearly automatic outs against LHPs. Those players get exposed in the playoffs when teams can bring in lefty pitchers for key outs at key moments in the game. Enter D.Myers, who has hit LHP to the tune of 144 wRC+ (2023), 131 wRC+ (2024), and 210 wRC+ (2025) over the past 3 years. He's hitting 141 wRC+ overall this year, with a 102 wRC+ against RHP, and he's primarily playing an above average CF. A $30MM trade value might be too high for the Rays to pay, particularly if they feel Deluca is close to returning, but the Rays have a deep Farm that can afford to pay this cost. Deluca hasn't played since early April and he's not exactly an established star yet either. If the Rays are serious about 2025, a trade like this (and several involving the Pen) needs to be considered. Obviously, trading for Myers would require the RFO to acknowledge they erred in acquiring Morel last year, and he would need to be traded or released if this trade is made.
