3Kepler is in to balance some of the salary as the Phillies would try to avoid the final tax threshold. It also enables them to have more steady playing time available for Gurriel and provide RH thump in a LH-heavy lineup. Miller can be a high-leverage guy, and in return, the D-Backs get a big RH SP.
Given that Arizona is scheduled to lose both Naylor and Suarez to free agency this winter, I don't see them trading away Gurriel and further weakening their 2026 lineup. Also, De La Cruz is not a starting pitcher. He's been exclusively a reliever this year and has an era over 9.00 in rookie ball. No thank you.
But if they were to move Gurriel, it also frees up $14 along with Naylor's $10M, and Suarez's $15M, and an additional $22M in Montgomery. That could make the DBacks big-time players in the Tucker sweepstakes with a COF spot now open or Murakami who can play COF or CIF.
