2Brash's fastball is down 3 MPH. His K rate is down 10%. I don't think he's as good as he was pre-injury, but he's still good. The Rays have a lot of SP that can go 7 innings, but the Rays pen is moderately bad. Really only 1 high leverage reliever, as Montgomery and Clevinger throw hard but have a HR problem, and a few injuries have made them have to use sorry ass Uceta in situations he has no business pitching in. I think this trade helps both teams. The M's have a strong enough pen to handle losing Brash, and the Rays have enough full time infielders to absorb losing Mead.
I’m thinking it will be an interesting deadline for the Mariners. A “do very little” offseason could be followed by overspending at the Deadline to try and make the playoffs, but would they trade from the ML club? I think that’s doubtful, except for prospects with little ML time. Would the Rays part with Mead and does the Rays’ Pen need help? Yeah, I think so on both accounts. Trade works for TBR and might work for SEA.
