2Varland has been outstanding out of the pen. One of the best xFIPs in baseball, due to how few HR have been hit against him. That might seem lucky, and I agree, but he is throwing 15% more ground balls this year than last year. Fewer fly balls=fewer HR and increase in double plays. He would be an excellent pickup for TB. McCusker seems an obvious want for TB. Older prospect with premier bat speed, which ranks among the best in the league. Sounds a lot like Souza/Yandy/Morel. 2/3 of those were very productive players for TB. Maybe Morel will turn it around in Minnesota, who should be thrilled at getting Morel at such a massive discount compared to a year ago. And they get a jack of all trades in Caballero, who can play SS when the oft injured Correa is out, and can even play CF while being considered among the best base runners in the game. I think this is a win/win for both teams. The twins are selling high on a reliever and buying low on a potential steal of a power threat. The Rays pick up a lights out reliever for a couple of bench players.
I’d love this for the Rays
