Red Sox get another top of the rotation starter and create space in their outfield. A's get low cost MLB pitcher in Holmes and a long term replacement for Rooker in Garcia with Early due to arrive in 2026 Braves get much needed offense albeit by spending a big part of their rotation. However, Rooker is their backup outfielder and DH to replace Ozuna and Abreu is their much needed answer for leftfield.

Down vote for the A's. I don't think Forst could stomach trading for Holmes again after letting him walk.

yeah but the A's need pitching and given Severino's comments, free agent pitchers are not heading there anytime soon. Plus Holmes was acquired in 2016 and moved up through their system as a starter. His career nose dived when they turned him into a reliever at AAA in 2022 when Atlanta picked him up. A's misused him but now he is established. The other part is Rooker's contract looks good now but escalates to $8m/$14m/$15m/$19m. A's also get Garcia who is Boston's #3 prospect and Early who so far has struck out 90 batters in 66 inning in AA and looks like a left-handed Hoglund.

Free agent pitchers will go to Sacramento if the A's are willing to do like they did with Severino and Leclerc; overpay! Which Fisher did because of pressure to reach certain spending limits if he wanted to keep revenue sharing and the Player's Union off his back during this nomad period. There's nothing wrong with Rooker's contract so long as he keeps producing; I think he has a couple more seasons before the team has to worry about decline. Additionally, arms like Morales and Perkins are more likely to contribute in 2026 while Springs/Lopez/Sears (even Severino) offer a stronger base than the A's had last offseason. And Holmes wasn't misused, he failed in the A's system. Kudos to the Braves for unlocking something the A's couldn't. But he's not an Ace or a MOR starter. Neither is Early, for that matter. Or Hoglund.
