I disagree. Red Sox CBO Craig Breslow calls trades like this one a "Baseball Trade" which merely translates to addressing weakness with a surplus. Both teams are engaging in one here. Sox need someone with crazy arm talent like Bradley, Rays need more offense -- especially in the outfield.
Owners of teams with a CBO that try to make trades like this are stopped from doing so, then fired.
Duran is barely providing league average offense though. Rays don’t need another all defense outfielder.
The league views Duran much higher than the numbers suggest. That's why Boston's been able to command a ton for him and not lose interest across the league.
They haven't commanded anything yet. Right now we just have BTV and national media speculating on his worth. Personally, I have no interest in him at this valuation as a Deadline acquisition. Maybe I'd feel differently in the offseason.
