3I wonder if there is cash going to KC as well -- Grichuk has a $3M buyout due in 2026 (assuming the mutual option is declined by one side, which it always is). It might be conditional on that.
Dammit. Good move by AZ.
Hazen seems to be focusing on acquiring pitchers this year, and I don’t blame him one bit given how heavily they’ve focused on hitters in years prior. Forbes and Curley in the draft, Garcia and Izzi in the Naylor trade, and now Hoffmann in this move. I saw where he’s been working on a kick-change this season, and it seems to be working out for him so far in AAA this year (2.25 ERA in 32 games). If he can translate that to the major league level, then the Dbacks should have another serviceable bullpen arm — but that’s probably all he’ll be.
