15A reasonable deal, considering the market.
Shit, fair trade. But Tait was on a Basallo-like trajectory and the Phillies don’t have any good catching prospects now
💁🏼♀️ Feels like the Twins left some value on the table, they must really like Eduardo Tait.
Almost have to wonder if it's Abel that they value more than what we see and what got the deal done. As a Pirates fan watched him duel with Skenes in his debut and Abel looked like a stud. Located well which seems to be the one drawback, obviously results since haven't been nearly as good. Easy could see a team consider him more valuable though than this rating. It is surprising since the market seems to be almost double value or so for most of these trades.
Anecdotally, I was at a game that Abel started vs. the Padres, and he got shelled -- didn't make it out of the second inning. Fangraphs sees a lot of reliever risk, and has him as just a 40+. Other outlets are a touch higher, but he's not a consensus top prospect.
Which definitely fair, not pretending to say I follow him closely. Only commented because it was surprising to me given the market value so far and to see an even value trade compared to all the rest. Duran arguably the biggest reliever available and may kind of pace deals rest of the way. Following Duran deal to see idea of what Bucs could look at for Bednar. Maybe Twins see something they can fix? Like I'd trust Pirates with analyzing pitchers. On the other hand, I have my hesitation with their development of hitters so less faith they'd help them get better.
Not sure why Abel is valued so low on BTV. Pretty sure his AAA stats are better than every pitcher ranked ahead of him on pipeline at that same level
See above comment. Most prospect evaluators are not high on him.
Great trade for the Phils. Really surprised thats all they gave up.
Great trade overall for both sides. Duran can help with the Phillies now while Twins are adding pieces to their future.
I definitely think Abel is undervalued here.
See above comment. Most prospect evaluators are not that high on him, and he's gotten off to a rough start at the MLB level.
Twins fan, I’m disappointed with the move but it’s more so the fact that I didn’t want the team to trade Jax/Duran. I feel like the Twins could’ve got more but Abel has good stuff and Tait is young and promising and Duran’s arbitration costs are gonna get pricey the next few years. A good move overall for both sides.
Personally I’m shocked this is the deal for Duran. I do think Abel is more valuable than the 5.1 surplus but really expected there to be at least one more prospect in this deal to bring the total surplus going to the Twins over 30. As a Phillies fan, I’m floored.
Think that was my initial reaction when I saw it. Like if I was Twins fan I think in most scenarios, I'd probably be happy with the return. Given the other trades we've seen today and the fact there was still 24 hours on the clock till deadline, almost wonder if some value was left on the table here.
