5bradley seems overvalued here
Nailed it John! Great valuation by you one again. I freaking love this trade. The Rays bullpen is atrocious. Bradley doesn't have a spot on the team, and struggled with command when he did. Get a top 5 reliever in, shift everyone down a peg, and suddenly the Rays pen looks alright.
I'm going to take this opportunity to toot my own horn, because I proposed a similar trade 2 weeks ago, before Taj was sent down. Hoped for an additional pickup, but very pleased at the return. I was not a Taj believer, but thought Jax was the Twins best reliever. https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trades/193736
Jax is a good reliever, but this trade sucks from a valuation standpoint. Taj was just knocked 25% of his value after being demoted, but he's still the same pitcher with electric stuff whose season stats rank him somewhere around a solid #3-4 SP. And he has 4 years of control remaining. What really bothers me though is that if the Rays were willing to move Taj to bring in a good reliever, they could have fixed their Pen 4-6 weeks ago when it mattered. Now it's too late. The Rays are staring up at 4 teams in the WC race and they are about to play the Dodgers and then head to the West Coast for an unprecedented 12 game West Coast trip. The Rays rarely come back from West Coast trips with better than a .500 record, so in all likelihood they will be completely out of the playoff race in 3 weeks when they return from California. So while Jax is good, he won't matter this year and Taj could still be great.
Buyer beware
