7I feel like once these values are updated this could be very even, maybe even a moderate overpay by STL
Why would the Rays want Burleson though?
They don't really have a well-rounded left handed bat that profiles in the corners right now do they? Mangum and Lowe aren't that. Lowe probably had a Burleson like season in '23, but he's missed significant time the last two years
My bad. I thought Burleson was still a 1B/DH. I see he's spent most of the year in the outfield, playing reasonably well (below average of course, but better than I would have expected). Yeah, he might be of some interest to the Rays. They don't typically trade for guys in arbitration though, so unless a wholesale change of management is coming from the new owners, I'd guess it's a low probability. I also can't see the Rays trading Coret at all. He was their top Int'l free agent signee this year and that alone mean's he's going nowhere. Throw in the nonexistent trade value BTV gives him, and I'd be shocked if he were moved. Personally, I'd rather keep Baz than do this trade, but the Rays may have a surplus of pitching for next year and they definitely need big bat outfielders and possibly catchers (though they just acquired 2 catchers at the Deadline).
Yeah, okay I wasn't too familiar with Coret, just seemed like a low level interesting flyer to add because of the down year Baz was having. Crooks is a near MLB level catcher and has been a borderline top 100 guy for quite some time now. Figured with the logjam of LH corner OFs the Cards have in and near the majors, the Rays may make sense as a trade partner. Any guys from the pitching surplus that would make sense to move? The Cards need controllable arms desperately
You are more right than wrong. The Rays catching situation isn’t ideal. Both of the guys added at the Deadline have holes in their game, but… they are good backstops and framers, and I’ve assumed their addition was to help the pitching staff look as good as possible to goose trade values. Rays could use Crooks. The Rays outfield struggles to hit above 100 wRC+, so an upgrade is very possible there too. I’d prefer to trade Pepiot out of the remaining staff but anyone is possible.
Good to know! Thanks!
