I asked this elsewhere, but what has happened to Volpe's defense this year? The bat has yet to come around so if he's not providing Plus defense at the 6 then I don't see a starting role going forward. Has he been hurt, knicked up? Speaking of hurt... I don't see the A's having much interest in Schmidt as they have several internal candidates capable of taking up a spot on the IL.
