1I’m sure a lot of Rays will love this trade but I’m on the fence. Ashcraft put up great topline stats as a reliever last year but he also had an elevated WHIP and too low a K rate for my taste. His arb salary may also be based in part on being a starter, making him a poor fit for the Rays who don’t like to pay relievers. McLain is a riddle to me. I would expect his bat to be better next year but what about the defense? DRS thinks he stinks and OAA thinks he’s ok but nothing special. Which is right? Rays don’t need a bad fielding below average bat. On the other side of this deal are Lowe and Fairbanks, who I suspect are being dangled in trade talks as we speak, and T.Morgan, who I have no interest seeing the Rays trade (but recognize the Rays could trade if Isaac isn’t a failed/injured prospect). What to do, what to do…
