1Just a thought if the Padres, like other teams who have been up for sale, try to clear out the books a little for new ownership. Some players are not moveable at all, but in this scenario the Phillies give up two 1 year underwater contracts and take one nearly 30M a year left on Manny's contract and get a solution at catcher to pair with Marchan if JT leaves and an OF and RP for the 2026 season. It leaves the Padres with an acceptable option at 3rd in Bohm so they would not have to punt on the season prior to their sale. In terms of salary, I think this deal is practically a wash (in real dollars) for 2026 but in 2027 the Padres would have 30M off their books from 2027-33 by dealing Machado and 48M coming off from the expiring deals of Castellanos, Walker, and Bohm.
