I still don't get why the Rangers did this.
Mets got the lesser player in this deal. Glad the Phillies don't have to see Nimmo as much anymore.
Given the Mets' luxury tax issues, Mets saved millions by this trade. I would've guessed the Mets might be willing to throw-in prospects to get cost down more.
It's actually a bigger hit to the Mets' luxury tax over the next three years. But after that, they're free and clear, and ultimately save a total of $25.5M. So it cuts both ways for them.
Tucker to the Mets now?
As a Mets fan I love Nimmo but he is deteriorating physically and is not the best defender. Think if he was ever gonna get traded for anything valuable, it had to be this year. I don’t love Semien’s contract but I love that it opens up an OF position with the options available via trade and Free agency. Would personally love a signing of Bellinger and trade for Steven Kwan
The FO is under pressure to cut budget, and this saves them a few bucks on an AAV basis (there's more total, but it's spread out).

💁🏼♀️ First look & thought is Rangers save $5.5m in ‘26 & ‘27 and it’s a wash in ‘28 but they add on two additional years at $20m per. Is Nimmo a DH going forward? And, i’m kinda surprised he waived his no trade. The Mets are sending $5MM to the Rangers in partial salary offset, according to the New York Post’s Jon Heyman. The Rangers cleared a good chunk of money off the books (a projected $21.1MM) on Friday with 4 non tenders. I think they are setting themselves up to be players in the free agent market….I wonder who… Tucker? Alonso?
