Down vote for the A's. They want to be more competitive in '26 and this deal would be a step back.
Totally fair. It looks to me, as a Mets fan who doesn't closely follow the As, like the As have good outfield depth but holes at 2B/3B/SP and the Mets have some players they'd be willing to trade that the As could use (e.g., Senga, McNeil) as well as a top prospect who's now blocked at 2B. With Nimmo gone, Soderstrom makes a lot of sense for the Mets roster and I think the fans at least would be happy to reunite with Severino. But I get why the As wouldn't want to move Soderstron.
Colby Thomas would be first in line to take Soderstrom's at bats and while his hair is magnificent... his swing decisions? Not so much.
Ok, but the Athletics need pitching, Gelof is hardly a long-term solution at 2B, and Severino wants out. Meanwhile, Soderstrom would be perfect for the Mets roster and they know Severino can pitch in NY. How about Peterson, Senga, and Jett for Soderstrom and Severino (I proposed this separately)?
Severino can get out with no strings attached a year from now. The A's do need pitching but at best this is a break-even trade of arms. I agree that Gelof looks bad but the A's don't tend to invest heavy at 2B; it's more a spot where they resort to scrap. I like Jett Williams but the hole dug by trading Soderstrom would be too big.
