💁🏼♀️ I can’t believe that Breslow and those that sit at the decision making round table were willing to include LH RP Brandon Clarke. 🤦🏻♀️ FO must be real down on Clarke & his control since he was drafted and decided to give him away as a sweetener. ⚾️
💁🏼♀️ Now that Breslow has his #2 SP he can just wait for the infield market to come to him. Whether it be by trade or free agent signing. And because we have Story at SS, Mayer (who can slot into 2B or 3B), the infield market as a whole can be in play. It could be a 3B, a 2B, a 1B, a C/1B type, a CIF, heck it could even be a SS. I think by getting the SP locked up the possibilities are wide open for Breslow to get something special done with the lineup. And here’s to crossing fingers and hoping that Grays turn through A.L. East this time is better then the last time. And that the PTBNL (or cash considerations) that the Red Sox have to send (and is not represented here) doesn’t come back and triple bite them for 1yr of Gray. ⚾️🤞🙏 Bregman just changed his Instagram profile pic to one of him in a Sox jersey. Tea leaf readers rejoice! And are said to be interested in J.T. Realmuto who has 51 career games started at 1B (none since ‘22) might be a busy news week for the Red Sox….
I don’t know anything about Clarke of the Red Sox system. Why is he valued so highly? MLB and Fangraphs have him at a 50 grade overall. In comparison, the Angels have Ryan Johnson who was drafted ahead of Clarke, has better results than him at the same level, has an overall grade of 55 by MLB, yet has a BTV of 5.1 versus Clarke’s 16.2.
Personally, I think the values are always a work in progress, ⬆️ ⬇️, is probably how both are trending. And Clarke may still be holding some SP value, but he’s probably a LH RP. Just my guess.
Clarke was rated higher by Baseball America, but his value will likely go down in our next update, as more prospect evaluators update their ratings. We're at the mercy of their schedules, unfortunately.
Why would they need Brandon Clarke who had control issues last year while also having Tolle/Early just starting their clocks? Clarke was a clear example of a sell high candidate and has very high reliever risk. This was a solid move for both sides. Red Sox get a sure thing near the top of the rotation while the Cardinals clear some payroll while getting back some upside both at the MLB and MiLB level.
Where oh where I did write that the Red Sox needed Clarke? I gave my thought that I was surprised they were willing to include him and that they must be down on him. Then I gave my thought to a question in a post that explained why Clarkes value might be where it is.
You said "I can't believe they were willing to include Clarke" with a facepalm emoji. This implies that they needed him or at the very least shouldn't have traded him. Why would not they not include Clarke to get a good SP?
