1If the Rangers are concerned about the Lux tax threshold this could be something to enable them to get under and be active in FA. They would get their replacement for Semien and a starting OF that enables them to remain competitive in the AL West. Their moves, from an outsider, seem to focus on cutting payroll while still remaining competitive. It is a hard line to walk. For the Phillies they get their RH OF bat they desperately need. They have to take on the contract of DeGrom, but he did show that he can still be a productive pitcher at 37. From 2020-2025 he has only thrown 438 innings and 172 came last year. Maybe he's fresh and fully recovered and can go 200 innings next year. I doubt it and would plan for 15 starts and hope the depth can cover the remaining starts, but if Painter is ready with DeGrom, a healthy Wheeler, a rebounded Nola, Luzardo continues to develop, and Sanchez remains at his Cy Young level they'd have 6 SP capable of starting a playoff game. Three of those could go to the pen, DeGrom included and that would be a powerful high leverage arm in the playoffs.
