I’m a Pirates fan and absolutely love this deal for the Buccos. Lead off hitting centerfielder, power hitting 2b/DH, bullpen lefty, and cash. This checks all the boxes. And could bear parting with the guys going your way. Someone send this to Ben Cherington and Eric Neander. Haha

This trade should be a total nonstarter for the Rays. Gonzalez can’t hit over 100 wRC+ and his defense isn’t all that good. In fact, according to DRS he is awful in the field. Mlodzinski Is a decent reliever but I don’t see how he generated the WAR he did in 2025 with his rather pedestrian stuff (4.12 xERA; 21.2% K rate; .263 BAA; 1.3 WHIP). I guess he gets extra credit for going 2-3 IP per outing, but that’s not an ideal reliever. The Rays would probably like to have him in their Pen, but not at the expense of Simpson (or maybe even Monty). This trade should be a hard NO from TBR.
