8Arizona gets a pile of pitching and regular to backfill Marte. The Braves pair Marte with Acuna and add a rotation regular. The Red Sox add certainty to the infield without committing to the FA market without trading any of their top pitching prospects. I think the toughest sell on this trade would be the Braves.
💁🏼♀️ Red Sox would pass because besides Devers, the Red Sox haven’t paid or bought a multi-year contract that would take a position player past the age of 34 since 2018 and he was homegrown. It’s a core team philosophy. Olson has 4yrs left and will be playing the last 2yrs at age 34 & 35. Breslow may be PBO but he is only one voice that sits at the decision making round table headed by ownership that deals with decisions like core philosophy and this has been in place for almost the last decade. I’d be in favor of acquiring Olson, I don’t think this is the package for him.
I don’t disagree. I’d be curious what you think the Braves would be willing to accept to move him to Boston.
I’m in favor of an Olson or Riley or Murphy trade and have suggested several . Look at Olson trades here. https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trades?q=Matt+olson&page=1&myTrades=Ms.+Dajuba -
Austin Riley trades here. https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trades?q=Austin+Riley&page=1&myTrades=Ms.+Dajuba
Sean Murphy trades here. https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trades?q=Sean+murphy&page=1&myTrades=Ms.+Dajuba
You never know when and if Breslow could approach ownership and the rest that occupy seats at the round table for approval. I actually think that it’s part of his job. If he feels he has the team in place for a serious run at a title and is missing a few pieces that’s the time to approach them and make your case. I’m skeptical that the timing is now and this off season.
I think you’re right on this offseason not lining up to be the year they dramatically expand the budget. I do think someone like Olson checks a lot of the boxes they’d want. I also don’t see Atlanta being that inclined to move him for a reasonable deal.
