1Rays need to cut about $10 million from payroll to get down to their desired payroll amount for 2026. Trading Yandy accomplished that, as well as opening up a spot for T.Morgan who is ready to be called up next year to play 1B/DH with Aranda. From the Mets standpoint, it doesn’t appear a deal with Alonso is going to happen, so a pivot to Yandy makes a ton of sense. His bat is just as productive, only with more contact and less power, and he makes about 1/3 what Alonso expects to make. The cost for Diaz is 2 LHP, which the Rays lack in their Farm, and a good far-off catching prospect.
