4This is fair, but I don’t think I can do it as a Giants fan without the opportunity to negotiate an extension with Peralta. I like Frelick very much, but his true talent at the plate may be low.
When I was thinking about this trade I definitely was thinking of an extension for Peralta. Frelick is exactly the type of outfielder the Giants are looking for in my opinion. I don’t really want to trade Bryce but he seems like an imperfect fit on the roster after the Devers trade. Most of the lineup strikes out to much and Eldrige will just makes that worse.
Eldridge obviously has huge upside and maybe there is other ways to adjust the lineup so it’s more complete and not a bunch of guys that strike out to much trying to hit home runs. Maybe the new hitting coach will change things to a degree. I was just thinking that this trade crosses off two needs with one trade of a player that seems redundant when paired with Devers.
I hear you. And I’d love them to get Peralta, since he’s a a perfect 1B to Webb’s 1A. But there’s the extension issue, and then Frelick’s bat. I WANT Frelick to be the perfect OF addition for the Giants, but he may be only 2/3 of the way there. Great fielder: check! Amazing baserunner: check! But statcast says expected woba was below .300, and that’s really not a productive bat. I *think* ZIPS still has him in the .315 range, so maybe it’s ok. And we can’t quite expect a PERFECT fit, can we?
