This Marte fascination for the Rays cracks me up. The trade cost would decimate the Rays’ 2026 rotation (with Pep and Baz gone), and Marte’s salary would require the Rays to trade Yandy, B.Lowe and maybe 1-2 others. I wouldn’t mind all of that because of all the top pitching prospects in the Rays’ AAA team next year and Marte being under control for 5 years, but then I have to wonder why the Rays signed Mullin and Fraley if they aren’t planning to compete in 2026, and forgive me if I don’t think the Rays can compete without the bats of Lowe and Diaz and a rotation of Ras (3 major elbow surgeries), McClanny (hasn’t pitched in 2 years), Matz (converted reliever), Boyle (hasn’t found his grove yet), Seymour (about 50 IP in the Majors), and really nothing else (unless they cannibalize the Pen). Either the rumors are BS or the RFO really has no plan and is just throwing “stuff” against the wall to see what sticks.
