Clarke's defense is obviously just out of this world, but his bat is probably never going to be one you bat higher than 9th. I added Tyrone as a 4th OF more than the starting CF, and figured in this scenario the Athletics would see what they have from Henry Bolte, Junior Perez (though both K rates are a little high). Felt like Baty is on the same timeline as the rest of the A's young core, and slots at a position they don't really have anyone knocking on the door at.
What you're saying isn't wrong but the prognosis on Bolte and Perez is so iffy that I can see much crashing and burning. Bolte in particular might end up Eric Byrnes 2.0 which is NOT ideal for CF. 3B is a gaping hole for 2026 but if LDV doesn't Bust the A's will probably have a De Vries/Wilson left side of the infield by Opening Day '27. Assuming there is a 2027 season but that has nothing to do with this trade proposal!
Fair enough. Baty also graded out positively in the field at 2B in 2025. I know this year might be Gelof's last shot, and you guys are waiting and seeing with Muncy, but Baty seems like a very clean fit. Yeah if there was another Cedric Mullins like FA CF on the market they could bring in as a stop gap I would agree this would fit a little better. Bader is too expensive for them (considering what he brings). De Vries is sick
I'm philosophically opposed to trading/spending significant value on 2B; it's a position that time and again has been filled competently by scrap infielders. Case in point: Jeff McNeil looks awfully available to me. And I don't think you acquire Baty unless you plan for him to be your 3B.
