Down vote for the A's. In the A's ideal line-up, Heliot Ramos ends up on the bench. He's not playing ahead of Butler or Soderstrom or Rooker or Clarke. Colby Thomas can handle that bench role just as well and it doesn't cost the A's $15 MM and Severino. I disagree with the narrative that the A's want/need to trade Severino this offseason... they want to improve their rotation so subtracting 29 GS, 162 IP, and 2.5 fWAR seems an odd way to go about bettering the starting pitching. This deal saves them $4.5 MM in 2026 payroll, that's not going to pay for a FA SP that can make up the production.

Controllable pitching/prospects could still move the needle

On a different note... I'm going to pitch a series alt-universe trades this week. Think John Fisher as Ebenezer Scrooge after he sees the bill for all his Christmas purchases. As a non-Giants fan looking in, it appears that 2B and RF could use upgrades. Is that an accurate assessment?

SF could always trade away Fitzgerald depending on the health of Casey Schmidtt come spring training, but say the SF brass miss out on Peralta, Imai, or Framber, The giants could always flip a young pitcher from their young depth for severino. Plus Rooker can always DH (as can Ramos who is blocked by Devers and Eldridge) so a LF option through Ramos (who can also play RF) although not the greatest, could still be enough for a young As core to consider
