1I see why you’d think Josh Smith would appeal to the Rays but there are more reasons for why he won’t. One, he’s already arbitrarily eligible. There’s no point trading for him when he won’t be a Ray the next time they are fighting to make the playoffs. Second, his bat is pretty weak, particularly when compared to his trade value. Third, the Rays rotation is paper thin. If they trade another starter their 2026 team might be truly unwatchable.
