3Interesting! Only glitch I see is Arias. Reds don't need any more SS. Elly will be around for a few more years. Maybe a minor league OF with similar value? Nice job IMO.
Interesting! Sox farm system is not as strong as it was a year ago, only option that registers as "minor league OF with similar value [to Franklin Arias]" is Kristian Campbell. I think it would be hard to include him in this trade because he is major league OF depth, and Duran and Yoshida are already two major league OFs - it would put the Red Sox in a hole to include another. But also, moving half of Yoshida's money off the books is a pretty attractive part of this trade so don't want to remove him. Justin Gonzales is another option but I think the Sox will be hesitant to part with him, probably the team's best hitting prospect, and we don't have many of those right now. Could include Enddy Azocar and Harold Rivas type prospects instead of Arias? But I like this trade from the Red Sox perspective. Probably the best rotation in the majors with Crochet and Greene at the front. Trading Tolle away hurts, but Greene is a major upgrade with four years of control, and backend starter depth remains a strength for the Red Sox. Red Sox outfield and DH logjam goes away, settling the outfield, and moving Yoshida is highly helpful, creating a path to Major League at bats for the likes of Triston Casas and Kristian Campbell. Also clear up ~$5M in CBT payroll, which should leave about ~$25M to spend before hitting second luxury tax threshold - which should put the Sox in a good place to go after Bregman or Bichette. Definitely a bit of an overpay on paper, but I think that's what it takes to get a top 15 pitcher in baseball, clear up your own positional logjam, and move a contract that hasn't worked out.
Great reply! Reds are very reluctant to trade Greene and for good reason. Problem is as you probably know Reds need some good everyday hitting and we have a lot of good SP Green being the best. If Reds don't find someway to balance out the hitting with the pitching we probably will have another year like last and we can't count on an epic failure by the Mets. Wish I was a Boston fan they have a great team esp if they get Bregman or Bichette. Need to try and keep pace with Blue Jays and Dodgers. So fun to talk about but Reds prob will need a significant overpay to trade Greene.
