I see your point, only thing I would suggest is Matthews will be ready this year, so you're hypothetically getting 2 young SPs immediately. You're also taking a bet on Libby's metrics, seeing him getting better this year than his first year as a SP.
The problem with Matthews (besides his command/control last year) is that he's competing for mound time with Jump, Arnold, Nett, etc. and it's arguable he's now on a tier below those arms. Liberatore's metrics don't scream "I can make you feel good about replacing Nick Kurtz". There's also the problem of having to replace Kurtz in the line-up and the A's don't have that bat in their organization.
