1If the D-Backs’ Arenado acquisition makes Lawlar available, this seems like a good trade for both teams. They D-Backs would get a young, controllable SP, which they are said to want, and the Rays would get a true SS candidate and a young LHP almost ready for the Show. Lawlar’s acquisition would allow the Rays to keep C.Williams in AAA until he’s ready and then let the best guy between Lawlar and Williams take SS, with the loser taking 2B or being traded. Drake would join a large collection of top pitching prospects in Durham for the Rays but he brings something no one else in the Rays Farm System has - Left-handedness. With McClanny a likely trade candidate in 2026, the Rays could use another LHP in the rotation (or the Pen for that matter).
