1Cardinal fan here. The Cards need high upside prospects. Even this trade where the Cards get 3 of the Giants top 10 prospects, I am not certain how stoked I am about it. Whisenhunt profiles as a back of the rotation starter. The Cards have a lot of those in the system. The two power hitting OF prospects are exactly what the Cards need. We have also seen power hitting OF prospects with higher rankings wash out or are about to wash out, i.e. Jordan Walker. You make this trade because you expect/hope one of these three players turns out to be really good with the understanding that perhaps they all wash out and likely two of them will. In return, the Giants get a really good player with a high degree of permance certainty for two years. If it puts them over the top, good for the Giants.
