2Hmmmmmm, good call, Tampa gets some much needed MLB C depth & the Cards pocket another lotto ticket SP. Worth a flutter.
This trade could work for the Rays. They are in full rebuild mode and have traded everyone they are likely to trade except Yandy and 5-6 pitchers. Ahhh, the pitchers. To goose their trade value the Rays will want a really good defensive catcher in 2026 and Pages is that. He doesn’t have much of a bat though and won’t win many Rays fans over as a result (or command a top prospect in return), but the big picture is making the Rays pitchers look as good as possible and Pages can help there. The only wrinkle in this trade is Urbina, who is far more than a lotto SP prospect. I’d rather see the Rays trade someone else, but the big picture is the important thing to keep in mind. I give the trade a thumbs up but I’d prefer another prospect be traded than Urbina (and I don’t think the Cardinals will do as well in the real world as Urbina).
