2The Rays are a fucking disaster. They will likely receive fewer than 1 WAR combined from 6 different positions. They have 3 acceptable position players, and they are all at relatively easy to fill corner IF and DH positions. Their bullpen will be lights out, but they won't lead enough games to justify spending the capital they have on it. Their rotation is young and healthy...wait, I meant old and injured. Injured is an understatement. What do you call a rotation where 60% have come back from/attempting to come back from their 3rd (each) career threatening injury? "Oft-injured" seems too lenient. This is a 75 win team that's as healthy as they can possibly be. There are days where Junior Caminero and Yandy Diaz will sit against a tough righty, and the Rays will field a below replacement level starting 9. I don't see a path to a competitive August, let alone a competitive last week of September. With a relatively empty farm system, old MLB team, no permanent home, rebuilding is the only route. They won't be competitive for several years. Bite the bullet and do what needs to be done. If caminero won't sign a 10-year deal, give yourself the greatest farm system in baseball and try it again in 3 years when you know where you'll lay your head at night in 2029.
That's too much to the Rays. Drop Yost & Oliveto & it's doable. McGonigle & Clark is what, 12 years of control?
