To preface this, I don’t think this gets a deal done, because the Tigers were one play away from beating a team that was one play away from beating a team that lost the World Series by one play. However, here is my logic. The Jays are giving up a couple of good young infielders. Nimmala projected to be a + right-power-bat, which Detroit can use. Stanifer gives them a good young arm, and Bloss gives them a young-ish project arm with a ton of control. Davis Schneider would be great with that team, at second and in left, and Loperfido’s bat has shown a lot of promise, albeit with not a great sample size. On the Jays side, they’re getting the arguably the top arm in the game, and the cost of getting him is eating the Javy Baez contract, which is a massive hit for the jays financially. The jays would make this move knowing skubal could be gone after this year for only a comp pick, and they’d be willing to make the move to make a run out of the AL this year, and have the kind of money to get an extension done even if it would take an overpay. The move frees up 56 Million (🤯🤯) for Detroit to add to the depth of their rotation by taking a chance on any number of the FA’s still available.
