5Brewers have 0 on the 3B depth chart, Arias helps there and maybe they think they can help him get to the hit tool. CLE adds a RP to let Cade back to leverage role while adding a relatively near-term live RP arm.
Cleveland definitely says no... They have a good bullpen already and actually need to add hitting... This makes no sense for them...
"Whenever you think you have enough pitching, get more." Gaddis and Smith have logged A LOT of innings the past few years. Another back-end arm is not a bad thing at all. As you know, I agree the Guards need hitting; 76 career wRC+ Arias isn't "hitting," he's defense." Give Brito/Bazz 2B on opening day and slide Brayan to SS. Defensive sacrifices acknowledged.
They literally spent money on Armstrong... He has a ton of experience and the new pitch he added last year made him even more effective... They resigned Allard and Avila... They signed multiple guys on MLB deals and picked one in the Rule 5 draft... Then If Aleman can get his cannon of an arm back to his 2024, he is another weapon... They need Arias way more than they need Megill... If they didn't sign Armstrong, then I could see this move having more merit, just not something I see them doing... (Though if they did another deal, adding another solid MIF prospect, then i could see this swing deal)
Vogt even said Arias should be ready to move around the diamond. That's someone whose value is decreasing internally. I wish he made the swing decisions to get to the power more often, but he doesn't. You have Genao, Bazz, Brito, Schnee with Devers pushing. Arias is definitely movable. I hope they plan to stretch at least Allard out...but again, another back-end BP arm is never a bad thing. Can always flip one at the deadline.
