Paredes > Hoskins by a distance imo esp for a team as offensively starved as the Guardians and Meyers is an established gold glover-caliber CF he'd improve them on that alone
I will be sincere... Ingle is on Cleveland's almost "untouchable" list and Cleveland is notorious for not trading that type of prospect. Also, if Cleveland is trading for Paredes it will be to add to Kwan in the lineup not for him... This is just a deal Cleveland has no interest in...
could keep Kwan then and make the deal Paredes for Martinez/Ingle, still makes sense for both teams, Cleveland gets a legit righty bat and Stros get a catcher and a lefty bat (Ingle is blocked anyway); imo Cleveland needs a legit rangy CF and Meyers is that, so could still send him in the deal and Stros could take back one of CLE's surplus starters like Cantillo (out of options) or Allen
Ingle is not going to be available for Paredes... I am just being honest. Cleveland isn't going to move Ingle for a guy with two years of control that is pure bat and no defense. That's just not a move they make... Meyers I can see Cleveland wanting as a 4th OF... They aren't going to pay 17 for a 4th OF... Maybe 8-10... Also If Allen or Cantillo are to be moved it will be for someone with more years of control...
LOL! I don't think Paredes is a fit in Cleveland, but I do find it funny that you label Paredes as "pure bat and no defense" when Ingle is pretty much the same. Even if Ingle's defense is marginally better, he doesn't have the power that Paredes has and that carries a lot of value.
Yeah I doubt Cleveland's braintrust regards Ingle as highly as you suggest. Typical overreaction on your part. Good hitting prospect for sure, but he comes with questionable defense and middling power at best.
Maybe, but that is not a given and the difference between the two is likely marginal. The problem with your argument is that Hoskins is already signed. Halpin is just as good defensively as Meyers and GG don't really mean much. Again, I'd gladly deal Kwan if it makes the Guardians better. This deal does not do that. Has Paredes even played 1B at all? He sure as hell isn't playing 3B in Cleveland and the Guardians have more 1B than they know what to do with.
Hoskins is signed to a minor league deal brah there is no opportunity cost to just moving on from him plus the Guardians' payroll is already miniscule
That doesn't matter Mitch. He'll be rostered as long as he's healthy and that's why he was signed to a minor league deal. It was basically an insurance policy for the Guards. A healthy Hoskins is as productive as Paredes.
It does matter because there's no cost to simply moving on from him if they believe that Paredes is a significantly better player; his approach at the plate certainly fits their mold better, and for that matter, modern baseball's mold better, than Hoskins, but reasonable people can disagree It is also inconceivable that GG doesn't mean much and that Halpin is as good as Meyers defensively; all the widely used defensive metrics suggest his range adds meaningful value to winning meaningful pro baseball games and Halpin hasn't even played meaningful pro baseball games!! Meyers has been a GG finalist and he is in the 95th percentile in ground covered among all center fielders in baseball this is an absurd contention a guy who is among the very best defensive center fielders in baseball with an OPS above .700 for the last two years is extremely valuable because it is extremely rare, maybe Petey Halpin becomes that kind of player but to suggest he already basically is literally defies fundamental human reality
If that's your logic then I'm dealing with Colorado for Doyle. The Guardians are not interested in Meyers and since Hoskins will be on the roster, they won't be interested in Paredes either. Especially at the expense of Kwan. Just so you know, Halpin is a damn good defensive CFer. You'd have to prove to me that Meyers is any more than marginally better defensively, if he is at all.
