This trade shouldn’t interest the Rays either. Diaz is an elite bat and Cleavinger is an effective major league left handed reliever. They should both have real trade value at the deadline and command better returns than a no-power outfielder and a MIRP.
For Diaz and Cleavinger, some combination of Khal Stephen, Braylon Doughty, Khalil Watson, and maybe Jaison Chourio, Jackson Humphries, and Gabriel Rodriguez. I also think Diaz will fetched more than the trade value BTV gives him. He’s more productive than Alonso and makes significantly less.

Cleveland isn't going to move for Cleavinger, not with its bullpen (at least not right now...) and they likely are not parting with Khal or Doughty unless it brings them an All-Star CF or SS with some control back in the deal. Diaz is a hell of a hitter, but a not a good base runner nor can he field in all honesty.... Watson has jumped in Cleveland's internal rankings and he has a very good chance of being a long term starting OF for Cleveland. I just don't see the move for Diaz right now at the end of the day and if they did want Diaz, they won't be moving Doughty, Khal or Watson for a pure DH type who doesn't run the bases well. Cleveland's FO is the type, if they want someone badly enough, they will make it happen... Since the need in the offseason for Yandy was there and it didn't happen, I do not think the interest was as strong / the price was way too high on him to merit Cleveland trading for him.
The Rays were never trading both B.Lowe and Diaz in the same offseason and with B.Lowe in the last year of control, he was the one who got moved. So I don’t think your contention of “if it didn’t happen in the offseason it’s not happening at the Deadline” is at all correct, because you’re only focusing on Cleveland’s needs and not what matters to Tampa Bay. Rays are in 1st place in the division right now and swept the Yankees over the weekend. If they turn out to be a playoff team this year, then Yandy isn’t going anywhere. However, if they drift off to mediocrity and a non-playoff year as I still expect, then Yandy will be made available at the Deadline and I suspect Cleveland would be better with him on the roster. Rays won’t want Cleveland’s polished “gems” in return for Yandy. They’ll have to give up an actually good prospect to get him. Time will tell if anything happens.
Love this response. Baseball gave free agents market value this offseason. If you want market value, shouldn't have waited til the Rays are in first place. Yandy's available, but the move from Yandy DH'ing to Tre DHing has to be accounted for. Take your December offer, then triple it. At the deadline, we'll consider your December offer.

Half a season of 40 year old Nelson Cruz cost Joe Ryan. 2 seasons of Yandy will cost much more than that.
