I don't see why the Rays do this either... Cleveland would be silly to skip in some ways... Though I actually think the Guardians will be moving Valera and Brito not Kwan... I actually do not see any future for those two...
They’re almost definitely moving Kwan. I agree Brito doesn’t fit anywhere but the book is still out on Valera. I think they want to see what he can do healthy, if he ever is.
Sincerely, I really doubt they trade Kwan if they are in contention... Kwan is one of the main guys in the clubhouse and they spent money to make sure they got Hedges back, so I doubt they will move Kwan in season since that would send a bad message to the other guys.... On paper, this style of deal makes a ton of sense though since they get help now and long term guys... I just don't see them moving Kwan because of he is in the clubhouse...
I know it’s a fleecing. Surprised Kwans trade value is that high. Would you say the assigned trade values on here are accurate? I just got a subscription
Kwan's value is trending down, but it's still too early in the season to weigh his current struggles too heavily. Virtually all projection systems have him producing over 2 fWAR over the rest of the season. So if he continues to struggle, you'll see his value decline in time. But it's high now because of his track record.
They try their best... Honestly, I do complain at times, but I know they cannot know everything about every team so they go by what projections say and what the national scouts on baseball America and Fangraphs state... I can tell you that the national scouts are often way different on Guardians prospects than the local guys
The national media is clueless on trade value.
The trade values on BTV are generally pretty accurate within the overall range they give (ie: the valuation is not just a single number, but a range with a min and max). You’ll find a few unicorns (Yandy is one) whose value doesn’t seem appropriate but might be, and you’ll find a lot of borderline replacement level players with 5-6 years of control with trade values that you’d never see realized in the real world. Trade value is heavily impacted by the number of years of cheap control a player has, even if they aren’t very good, but that doesn’t mean a replacement level player is ever going to net a top prospect (whose value is still impacted by the risk-related discount applied to guys who haven’t proven themselves in the Show) or a great player making significant coin, just because their trade values line up. I’m a big fan of BTV. Welcome to the site!!
