As usual, the Rockies are a mess with very little talent in their system, and just the 10th pick this year, and likely the 10th pick next year, and the year after that etc. The Rays just got Brito and he looks like a stud, so I'll be sad to see him go, but go he must if Dollander gets moved. Nichols is probably a back end of the rotation guy right now, and has the potential for a premiere reliever if you prefer triple digits in short spurts. Good changeup and 4 seamer will play well in Denver, much like Jake McGee's did. Tr Morgan and Brayden Taylor are high ceiling low floor former top 100 prospects. Both could be well above average in 3 years, and both could be playing in Mexico in 2027. The Rays get a potential top tier pitcher who hasn't put it quite together yet. The Rays are not a good team, but somehow find themselves 7 games over .500 before April ends. They need to get better, and not waste this opportunity.
I like Dollander. He's pitching well with an opener (I assume) this year. Not sure where he fits in a Rays rotation with Ras, McClanny, Matz, Martinez, Pep, Boyle and I guess Jax. What we really need are players of the future in the field. I don't trust this offense to remain competitive. Take 2B, how awesome would it be to have B.Lowe or X.Edwards holding down 2B? Oh wait... We could use an upgrade at SS (what else is new), CF and RF too.
Yeah, life comes at you fast. Pep is out for the year. Boyle is out for another month or more. Jax and Scholtens seem to be a package for the 5th spot. There’s no one in Durham I trust to start. So yeah, we could use Dollander. I have no issue trading the guys in this package. Brito weighes about a buck fifty so he’s a reliever in my opinion. B.Taylor can’t get right. T.Morgan is oft injured and might not have the bat for 1B. Only Nichols’ loss bothers me but I don’t mind losing a pitcher to get a pitcher. Make it happen captain.
Brandon Lowe and Mason Montgomery are both absolute studs that we are sorely missing. Jax is a shitty reliever, not sure why they want to see him try to get 20 outs at a time when he struggles to get 3 outs without getting torched. Pep's done for the year, Martinez and Matz get traded as soon as someone gets desperate, and Boyle has options. If you get the opportunity to get 5 years of a prospective ace, I get creative. Hell, maybe Boyle can play shortstop. The Rockies can't develop pitching, and that's the only thing the Rays can do. We move a couple MLB ready pieces for the hardest throwing SP in baseball with a .283 xBA. He strikes out a ton without walking anyone. He's ready to be an absolute superstar, and I think the Rays can get him there.
