Just your standard 3 team, 9 player trade, lol I'm not against it but IMO we already hit the iceberg and nothing they can do to stop the leak, I'd kinda would like to hang on to Jadher though, i almost feel like if they're going to make a run they'd have to get impact players like CJ Abraham or Buxton but then that would really set the system back all over again in hopes of forcing a window to open.
LOL. It’s really two separate trades. My thinking is that (1) the Rays are likely making the playoffs, so why not give them some help. They have to play below .500 ball the rest of the way to not make the playoffs. (2). They have such a deep farm that they almost need to do trades like this to clear out the system some. (3) With a potential lockout coming, they are unlikely to trade for anyone with 1.5 years of control, which limits the available pool of trade candidates quite a lot. (4) They are also unlikely to go big game hunting for rentals like Skubal because their team has several holes that make winning it all unlikely. And (5) Last but not least, their rotation consists of three guys who might not be able to pitch in October because of IP limits (McClanny, Matz and Jax), and if the Rays shut McClanny down, the post-season is going to end quick no matter what. A few small deals will do the team wonders.
Honestly i don't think they'll make the playoffs cause there's so many teams sticking around but I think it'll be like a few years ago that they'll be competitive long enough not to sale at the deadline and miss out, with the pitching doing so good to start the year it would have been nice to cash some of them in, the only problem is I have no faith in the team development anymore, every time I turn around it seems like another former Ray is excelling while the team is stuck with the worst outfield in history, have you seen what Mead has been doing?
Agreed. Player development and usage is a big problem for the Rays right now. It’s why I’m hoping they trade C.Williams for his own sake. They have royally screwed up his development at this point.
