Part of me wonders if they're salary adders on the expectation of a salary floor next year? Or at least lessens the amount asked for.
Like I think Cleveland will add payroll if it brings more wins especially if guys like Hoskins continue to struggle, but they aren't going to add a bad contract though either so I don't know at what price point they feel Contreras is at a bad contract in their minds... They took on Segura to get Watson, so they are willing to eat some contract, I just don't know how much...
I don't think Contreras is a "bad" contract, per se. He's not underwater and if they need to hit a floor next year, paying him and still getting ++ production relative to Hoskins helps this year (in the lineup) and next year (lineup and floor requirement).
So I can honestly see us trading for him... Also need to factor in the gradual sale of the Guardians as well, so I don't know how much that effects payroll though I doubt Blitzer group cares if it equates to wins... His contract is borderline, so I just don't know the price point they want to be at with all those factors... Though I don't doubt Cleveland has an offer/knows what they want for him...
