Being honest i don't think 2.5 MM should be the factor if the Redsox are getting a package like this. Plus they've already invested in this team and agreed to the payroll. In fact, I think they should be willing to eat as much money as they can, so they can maximize the returns they acquire.
Eating money to maximize a return doesn’t necessarily mean a prospect that a team has no interest in moving suddenly becomes available, it only means it will include more of the “edge of the roster” or “lottery types” in the trade package.
