Dajuba, since you don't like most trades which is no big deal. What Breslow should do at the trade deadline? I know you want to keep Chapman and Contreras. What about Sonny Gray? They need to trade their small rentals. I really asking for your complete approach to the deadline if you were Breslow with the corresponding logic. With realistic trades.
https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trades/214699 June 25, 2026 at 8:56 PM 💁🏼♀️ John Henry called me early this morning and asked me to take over. I told him I’d be keeping Breslow, he told me I’m in charge, to do whatever I felt was best. Here we go; 1) Move Anthony to the 60 day IL. 2) activate and re call Romy Gonzalez to play 2B. 3) Send Mayer & Siegler to AAA. 4) call up Tsing-Che Chang to platoon at SS with Monasterio. 5) I’m telling Tracy to play Yoshida daily in LF until the deadline and that he needs to tell Duran he is being optioned to AAA when IKF returns with Eaton remaining as the 4th Outfielder (Duran still has 2 options and only about 3.2yrs service time, let’s see if we can get him straightened out because he could be boaderline/approaching DFA status next spring I think) 6) I’m calling the Diamondbacks up and offering up this trade today and giving them 24hrs, I’m moving Chapman now. 7) I’m approaching Gray to see if we can re do his contract and add on the ‘28 season reasonably, if not, I’m informing him he will be asked to waive his no trade come the deadline and that he should start thinking about it now with his family and agent to make it as easy as possible for him. 🤔
On the 26th (the very next day) Mayer went on the IL with a bone stress reaction to the left ulna, and the news that IKF would most likely be out until after the deadline broke. So no need to send Mayer to AAA and Duran has to remain with the big club for now. And Siegler has out played Monasterio so he goes to AAA when Sogard’s rehab is up. And Chapman is gone in the next 3 Days to whichever team is willing to trade a Competitive Balance Pick, if no team is willing I’m waiting on making a decision on him until the last few days before the deadline along with Gray.
So as far as trades go; 1) I’m going to assume I was able to trade Chapman for a pick. 2) If I’m unable to get Gray extended I expect to trade Gray with no more than $2m in cash and get a return back in the 8 to 10 range. 3) I’m shopping the entire RP staff, everyone is available, I’m not worried about the Closer role. 4) I’d move IKF for a PTBNL if there was interest. After that it really depends on the standings, but I don’t think I’d be making any other moves other then seeking out a RH Middle of the order Power Bat (at any position) with years of control (which I don’t anticipate being available at the deadline) and would be willing to listen & discuss any player in the Red Sox system.
Got to admit that was extremely through response. I had to reread several times to understand all its points. Were you an English major in college with writing flare? I was a history major who wrote chronologically.
1. I like your idea about Duran and Monstanio being sent to Woosox. 2. Gray's ego needs to be stroked to get him to wave his no trade clause. Insightful 3. I don't know what to do about Mayer. 4. Crochet +Suarez +the other walking wounded shouldn't be rushed. 5. Sogard? Trade Sandoval for a lottery ticket. 6. Maybe Gray gets you 8 to 10. Chapman gets you a draft pick. 7. We both agree that the RS aren't going any major returns or trade additions. You friend Erik Watch Red Seat Radio podcast
I still think Mayer is someone to keep and his role should be 2B/3B/SS bench/backup. Not an everyday player or a strong side platoon player. But he could grow into it with more experience and sustained health. If he’s able to get back this year I would option him to AAA. I’d keep Sandoval as an SP for now and let him pitch, move him to the pen if he struggles. I really don’t see Crochet, Anthony, Story coming back unless it’s in September. The same for Houck, Crawford, Oviedo & Casas. Suarez & Early should both be back though.
We’ve won 4 in a row and have 21 games until the deadline. The standings and outlook could change significantly for Boston by 6pm August 3rd. And I’d be ready to pivot and change lanes if we should somehow go 15-6 or better. 🤔 11-5 in their last 16, Red Sox with Tracy - 31-31 after yesterday. ⚾️
Everything you said was true. However, I still think that the RS have too many injuries to be competitive. The Tony Massa. had a good video yesterday. The RS are 11-2 versus the Royals+Angels+Tigers. Their record against everyone else is 16 games below .500. The bigger question what is Tracy's future?
