If you look at his stats you can see he has never had great control. Now that he's facing better batters, his lack of control is really showing itself. Some Rays fans believe he is just missing and it's only a matter of time before he becomes elite. Others believe he has been exposed. Only time will tell.
Where do you fall on that spectrum?
I fall in the "Bodine has a 150 wRC+ in AA, his 3rd level of 2026 and in his first full professional season, he walks more than K's and is a switch hitting catcher. That dude's untouchable" spectrum. Hopkins' stock has tumbled, but like MP said, control has never been there. He still has the stuff to be effectively wild, Glasnow'esque, but it's hard to see him as a top tier SP at this point.
He'll have to shave the BB/9 in half to meet "effectively wild". If Bodine is unavailable... what about Cooper Flemming?
I really really like Flemming, but not every prospect can be untouchable. For my money, the Rays have 4 guys who are untouchable (Emerson, Gillen, Bodine and Flewelling). I'd be willing to part with Flemming for the right return (not a rental).
I'm not a fan but I can't deny he has elite stuff. I'd trade him for the right return but I'm not looking to just give him away.
Well, I put Langeliers on the table. I know he doesn't fit the typical Rays C mold but I thought I heard they might be in the market for RH power as well.
