The Tigers saw firsthand how good Jax was. They pick him up and don't take a big step down, and load up with tons of future talent. The Rays will make the playoffs with or without Skubal. They care about how many October starts he makes. If they win the division by a game a get home field and a bye, great trade. If they advance to 7 game series's and have Skubal, Ras, McClan, Martinez, they probably go to the series. Starting pitching is the most important position in game 7, and the Rays are basically assured of having the advantage.
