Who would you swap him for? The Angels have been reported to be in the market for a young catcher and TB has good depth in the farm which is why I put him there
I don't think a Detmers trade works with the Rays. Angels fans are focused on getting a catcher and the Rays didn't acquire Bodine a few months ago just to trade him in July (and Flew has the higher ceiling of the two).
Sherman just said rays would be more than willing to include Bodine or Flewelling in the right deal. Looks like you are going to have to let one of your catching prospects go.
Who is Sherman? Jeff Sherman? Joel Sherman? And what is his connection to the Rays or the people making decisions for the Rays? Most national media personalities know less than zero about the Rays. They make shit up that doesn't even pass the smell test. As I said above, there is little to no chance the Rays are trading Bodine, who they only acquired a few months ago. And Flew has the higher ceiling, so I'd be pissed if they traded him. Sure, if the Rays are engaged in trade discussions for Ohtani, then anything goes, but I can't believe they would be willing to part with one of these guys for anyone but a very significant piece.
Joel Sherman. New York Post. Angels are asking for a young catcher in exchange for their controllable pieces. In this scenario the rays are trading for them. Thus, they must give up one of their catchers. Even the website agrees the value is correct. Not sure where the disconnect is
Angels can ask. Hell I don't blame them for asking. The Rays two catching prospects are both exciting prospects. But here's the rub. The Rays have been looking for a catcher for 30 years. They have 2 good prospects with no guarantee they both work out. Just imagine if the Rays traded one for Detmers only to watch him blow out his elbow and only pitch 10-20 games for the Rays while the catcher they kept busted and the one they traded became a star. Rays know how to develop pitching and they have a good rotation as is. Detmers is a luxury, not a necessity. The Rays catcher prospects are necessities that may turn out to be luxuries. This isn't about trade values or what the Angels want. The trade has to make sense for the Rays too, and I just don't believe it makes sense to trade one of their catcher prospects for a good but certainly not elite pitcher like Detmers. It's just my opinion though.
