The Angels included Bachman in addition to Detmers because they wanted Bodine. They also acquired Pearce in this trade, as the Rays have Emerson lined up as their future shortstop.
I can't remember a single time the Rays traded a player they had acquired a few months earlier, let alone a player as good as Bodine. I can't see them trading him this year. Their other catcher prospect (Flewelling) has the higher ceiling and is hopefully even less available in trade. Angels should be thrilled to receive Pierce, Hopkins or Flemming as the headliners for Detmers. Maybe that'll work.
You always express opinions that favor Rays
Well, I'm a Rays fan. Also, I don't think my comment above favors the Rays. It's just stating my views of how the Rays operate and how I view Rays prospects. I believe all three of the guys I listed are top 100 prospects on BA's list (though I can't find the midseason list), and if that's the case they are viewed pretty favorably by the industry. I'm not always right about the Rays either. I pounded the table here that the Rays would never trade for C.Morel only to watch them make one of the worst trades in their history when they went out and did that very thing. Huge mistake that I still can't understand, but anyway...
