Jays are done. They move 2 expiring contracts for a young recent high pick and 2 40 man roster casualties. I don't think this happens as Mullins has played much better the last couple months, but Varsho is a league average bat who should have won a platinum glove. He's an upgrade.
I'm not a big Varsho fan, but Gausman probably works. Still need the 2B and 1-2 relievers though. Otherwise, who cares if they trade for a SP?
This feels like 2021 to me. We've got a club good enough to win the world series, but have obvious holes. They are looking for upgrades and will pull the trigger if the right one comes. It's a bummer that we thought Jacob Faria was Joe Ryan and Joe Ryan was Jacob Faria, but ithe Nelson Cruz debacle was 5 years ago and shouldn't discourage us from improving the team. Kind of crazy how many players leave here and soon after are borderline superstars. With the emergence of Mead, Sanchez, and Edwards, the list is starting to get pretty long.... Anyways, I hope they understand that small incremental moves are equivalent to no moves at all, especially with 2027 in doubt. You either roll with what you got, or you go get someone that pushes Jax back to the bullpen and Palacios to AAA. I think we get both of those two. I think we land a starting pitcher that would send Jax back to the bullpen (or traded), and I think August 1st roster doesn't include 2 of Chandler Simpson, Jax, McClan, Seymour. Caden Bodine and Jacob Melton are starting C and CF come September. Cedric gets swapped for an overpaid but quality reliever, someone like Tyler Rogers. But really, I could honestly see them selling out and going for it huge. McClan, Rasmussen, Jax, and Yandy all reach FA after next year, and there's a good chance much of/all of next year doesn't happen. AAA offers next to no reinforcements or potential replacements, and I could see anyone not named Emerson, Bodine, Rasmussen, Yandy, Caminero, Mesa Jr, Gillen used to bolster our chances. For as much as our ownership has found themselves on the broadcast, they better be willing to open the pocketbooks a little. Gun to my head, I say we walk away from the deadline with Arraez and a reliever, but I'm really hoping it's Hunter Goodman, Morillo, Arraez, and Mize.

There's a lot of smoke around the Rays' deadline moves. Do you think they surprise with a big Deadline or do they do their usual "trade for marginal players who have years of control while bypassing the better players because they're rentals" moves.

I went and watched the game with my uncle this weekend against cleveland. He's a Cleveland fan. He remarked how much he enjoys watching the Rays hitters because they play Old School baseball. I didn't have it in my heart to correct him and tell him they don't play old school baseball, they just have a lineup full of really shitty players so they bunt a lot because none of their 6-9 batters can hit the ball over anyone's head.
