Both Reds players have options. Rays move some high ceiling prospects for bounce back candidates. Lodolo s change is his best pitch, and this year, the Rays love some change-ups. I've moved on from McLain being a future all star, but I haven't moved on from him playing good defense at 3 infield positions and 3 OF positions. He's like Taylor Walls in that the day he hits league average is the day he gets MVP votes. Probably never happens, but he has a high floor with his glove and it's versatility. If McLain doesn't show improvement, he's an easy contender.
As usual you try to think the Rays are doing the other team a favor by giving them mediocre major league player(s) and prospects that will never make it. Reds are not going to sell low on Lodolo no matter how many times you try to make a move for him.
You should have taken the previous offers if you wanted real talent. Of course, that's before both of these guys shit the bed, and look like #1 and #2 worst players in baseball right now. For all you know, I'm buying at the peak of their value. Nobody is giving Lodolo arbitration at $7M next year if he doesn't bring that 5 FIP down, and McLean has an OBP under .300, and barely has a slugging % above .300. No one is paying him $3M per year. I'm buying 2 nontender candidates from you. What were you expecting, my offer from a year ago?
