Valera still has his rooke eligibility... Not sure why it hasn't been fixed... This move makes sense for both teams in a lot of ways... Thomas just isn't that great of a player though hence why Cleveland didn't resign him...
this move makes no sense for KC. Thomas will return a better player than Valera in trade. KC could have had Valera for a bag of peanuts when Cleveland DFA'd him and passed him through waivers earlier in season. Valera is a lifetime .248 hitter in minor leagues. .232 this season.
Valera is a better hitter than those numbers indicate... That's not an opinion, but a fact... The problem is... His defense and speed have never recovered from the injuries. He isn't the guy who was a top 100 prospect at all... The right hitting coach can make an MLB bat out of him, but it may not be enough to overcome his defensive issues...
KC does not do this deal. As OP said, f they wanted Valera, they would have claimed him two weeks ago when he was DFA'd. Bats are gonna go for a premium given scarcity, especially RHH. Does not get it done. Two prospects in the Welbyn range is probably the ask here.
you are confused about facts and opinions. here are facts: Nobody claimed Valera when he was available. Every team that passed had a hitting coach. He is career .248 in minors. Now, here are opinions: Valera is better hitter than his record indicates. Valera is better fielder than other peoples opinions of his fielding. Valera is underrated or overrated. Those are opinions. Now it only takes one positive opinion to acquire a player, so thats a fact.
He is a better hitter than his numbers, thats a fact... but i also stated his defense is not good enough to overcome said numbers to merit having him...
