I think there's a big difference between BTV's valuation of Ryan and much of the league's. He's old for a prospect and hurt, but on ability he's a major league ready starter.
River Ryan probably has a diverse valuation within the league, as well. The stuff is undeniable. As is the fact that he's pitched more than 50 innings just once in the previous 4 seasons and he's currently on the IL. If you bet on the talent and win this deal tilts heavily in favor of Detroit. Bet on the track record and win then this deal is a steal for LA. Thing is... either way, LA can't lose. They've built up their farm system to the point where they're giving up non-top tier prospects for a legit Ace.
Should’ve at least gotten Sheehan back/ another controllable arm that could’ve been inserted into the Tigers rotation. Deal isn’t as bad if that were the case.
I personally think Ryan’s value should be higher here. Metrics looking good in the minors right now, and will obviously have 4 years of control during his prime years.
The metrics look very good... in their small sample. Which has been River Ryan's bugaboo for a while.

He's an outlier for modeling purposes, for sure. Very wide error bars.
Tigers should have tried for a pitcher who isn’t injured all the time. You just traded your best pitcher since Verlander; get a healthy arm in return!
That is a terrible return for the Tigers. Had the Tigers gotten Sheehan and Hope, I'm not sure people would be slamming them as hard today. Ryan certainly has upside, but he's 28 this month.
You guys are missing the whole point. The failure is by the Brewers and Rays, especially the Brewers. They have never won a World Series, Skubal/Miz give them a Johnson/Schilling duo...this was the best chance they've had since '82
It's a failure by everyone involved. That the Rays just overpaid for Peralta while not issuing a competitive bid for Skubal is a failure on their part. That the Brewers, Yankees and others didn't at least push the bidding up on Skubal is a failure on their part. But also, the Tigers (at a minimum) should have pushed to offer to the deadline to force the Dodgers to up their offer, which they likely would have done. The Dodgers must not believe their good fortune.
The deadline is on Monday, kind of difficult to hold out. There are only so many true contenders who would give up that much for one championship push.
If they had traded him before the season they would have gotten SO much more for him. Waiting until the last minute killed his value.
