Braves are seriously lacking in the shortstop position both at the majors and in depth at the minor league level. Willy Adames is a bit of a risk because of the years on the deal but the Giants paying 80% of the value of Adames would make it more tolerable. Braves also get a couple of defense first upper minors shortstops who are not longer useful depth for the Giants, plus a lower minors outfielder with some upside who's been out with an injury most of this season. Giants get Reynaldo Lopez a pitcher that the Braves don't really need as they have a ton of tweener swingman profiles in the upper minors but could help fill out the Giants rotation or bullpen.
